Director (Milan, Italy, 10.18.1980)
Filmmaker of Eritrean origins, born and based in Milan, Italy. His father, born in the small town of Segeneti, Eritrea, came to Milan with a scholarship in 1973, as an aspiring engineer, and in Milan met her mother, who was sent there two years later as a housemaid. Medhin was born in 1980. After getting her high school diploma in linguistics, she enrolled in Accademia delle Belle Arti (Academy of Fine Arts), Milan, specialization set design, but when she was 19 had the opportunity to join the electrofolk band Fiamma Fumana: she’s credited officially in the second album, Home (2003) and in the third one (Onda, 2006), as Medhin Paolos dj, for live electronics, loops and voice. Engaged in the fight for citizenship rights of second generation boys and girls through the organization Rete G2 – Seconde Generazioni, Medhin defines herself as fotographer, electronic musician and activist. Asmarina (2015), codirected with Alan Maglio, a documentary on Eritrean and Etiopian diasporas in Italy, and particularly in Milan, is her first work as director.
