Born in Puerto Limón, Costa Rica, Carin McDonald studied at Colegio Dr. José María Castro Madriz and performing art at Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, collaborating to create the first theater street company in Costa Rica, Diquis Tiquis. She arrived in Italy in 1983, started to model and to appear in popular TV shows such as Drive In and Grand Hotel. Directors Franco Castellano and Giuseppe Moccia aka Pipolo introduced her into film scene with the role of singer Esmeralda in their comedy hit È arrivato mio fratello, starring Renato Pozzetto. After that, she had some more opportunities to act through early 2000s. In thriller Pathos – Serena inquietudine, she starred alongside Kid Creole, in comedy Abbronzatissimi, with Salvatore Marino. In an episode of TV miniseries Una donna per amico, she appeared with Hodan Iussuf, Alex Van Damme and Bedlu Cerchiai. From 1986 to 1995 she featured also as singer in four 45s: Prendi prendi/Malaika (Target, 1986), Africaine House (Èviva Records, 1990), Tropikal Theme (Discomagic Records, 1991) and Together (12”, IDM, 1995).

Based in Milan, she worked for a while as manager of a real estate environmental project in Costa Rica. Recently Carin turned 50, authored a book mixing cookie recipes and autobiography (L’integrazione comincia con il gusto: Nella vita così come in cucina… Firenze : Corrado Tedeschi, 2015) and opened Puravida Club to organize cooking classes as “exotic recipe developer”. Carin is also president of Associazione nazionale amicizia Costa Rica-Italia – Sezione Lombardia (Anacri).
