Singer and actress (Stephens, Arkansas, USA, 11.20.1948)
Barbara Hendricks, born in Arkansas in 1948, is an African-American operatic soprano and concert singer. Hendricks has lived in Europe since 1977, and in Switzerland in Basel since 1985. Hendricks appeared on film in several TV recordings of operatic productions and starred in Amos Gitai’s Disengagement (2007).
Hendricks is related to Italian cinema as she featured in the role of Mimì in Luigi Comencini’s opera film La Bohème (1988), a French/Italian co-production, adapted from the eponymous opera by Giacomo Puccini, on a libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa.
