Actor and director (Rome, Italy, 1986)
Son of Algeria-born director, naturalized Italian, Rachid Benhadj and of Maria Cristina Paterlini, Karim Benhadj is an Italian actor and director. His first experience in the world of movies was at 12 as lead of Mirka (1999), a co-production among Italy, France, Spain and UK, in which he played an orphan, son of a civil war, alongside great actors such as Gerard Depardieu and Vanessa Redgrave and won the Golden Globe of Foreign Press Association in Italy as best actor. He played again in Il pane nudo (aka For bread alone), a co-production of France, Italy and Morocco, inspired by the eponymous novel by Mohamed Choukri, and also starring Saïd Taghmaoui, Sanaa Alaoui, Faycal Zeghadi, Ahmed El Kourachi and Jamil Hammoudi.
After some experiences as camera assistant, camera operator and director of photography in short, documentaries, features and music videos, in 2017 Karim directed his first short as director with Ghina el mujet aka Il canto delle onde, starring Sofia Nuacer, Abdelbacet Benkhelifa and Hakim Traidia.
